Food & Nutrition Policy

1. Purpose and Commitment

Ensures all food provided is safe, nutritious, and inclusive. Commitment to providing hygienic food, promoting healthy habits, and catering to dietary/medical needs.

2. Food Provision

Delivered in-house using appropriate kitchen facilities. Registered with local authority and holds a 5-star Food Hygiene Rating. Follows the “Safer Food, Better Business” (SFBB) framework.

3. Nutritional Standards

Meals include Fruit and vegetables; Carbohydrates (rice, pasta, bread); Protein (meat, fish, beans). Limited fat, sugar, and salt. Compliance with School Food Standards where applicable (e.g., HAF delivery).

4. Food Safety & Hygiene

  • Staff hold Food Hygiene Level 2 certification.
  • Strict procedures to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Compliance with Food Standards Agency (FSA) regulations.

5. Allergies, Dietary & Cultural Needs

Collect dietary/allergy info in advance. Provide suitable options (Halal, vegetarian, vegan, allergen-aware). Supervision of food distribution to ensure safety.

6. Inclusive Environment

Ensuring equal access to food, avoiding stigma, respecting cultural preferences, and encouraging children to try new foods supportively.

7. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Programme Leads: Oversee provision and compliance.
  • Staff/Volunteers: Follow hygiene and safety procedures.
  • Management Team: Monitor standards and policy adherence.

8. Monitoring and Compliance

Regular checks on food quality. Feedback gathered from families. Policy reviewed annually. Aligns with FSA guidance and School Food Standards.
